>> Musical Accompaniment
An experienced and adaptable accompanist, David is able to sight-read piano scores quickly and easily and will not only “play the notes”, but also act as a musical mentor and partner, giving the advice and encouragement musicians need to support them in creating a successful, musical performance.

Accompanist for ABRSM & Trinity Exams and Performance Exams
Having been the Head of Music at a Poole Grammar School for 20 years (from 2002-2022), David fully understands the challenges faced by young people in playing their music for exams and performances. David will not only perform the accompaniment reliably, but help young musicians to understand the overall structure of the music, with hints on how to create an effective interpretation.

Thank you for your response. ✨
David was my accompanist when I undertook my first ABRSM recently. I was nervous, but David was so professional, calm and encouraging, that I was able to focus clearly on the task ahead. Thank-you so much David, for your support!
Instrumental Music…
Some of David’s earliest collaborations were at sixth-form college, where he played music with his friends and fellow music students. Repertoire written for instruments with piano accompaniment requires a real understanding of the textures, melodies and harmonies of the music.
David much enjoys working with instrumentalists to create musical performances. He is often called upon to accompany musical students at schools, and at Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth, where many of the graduate and postgraduate students are studying for various courses, but have strong backgrounds as talented musicians and are involved in the busy programme of events run by University Music.
Accompanist for Singers
With his background as a choral singer, David understands the needs of singers – that flexibility and nuance needed to interpret text. He is frequently asked to accompany singers in their recitals, workshops and rehearsals.
David has recently worked with a talented young Soprano, Alexandra Burstow, now a student at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. They performed two programmes in 2023, at St Peter’s Church, Bournemouth and at Romsey Abbey. Also, in June 2023, they illustrated the music in an exciting collaboration with Dr Natalie Burton at Bournemouth University, in which she explored the vocal music and influences in the music of John Ireland.
